Councillor Maggie Burton Seeking Re-election in the 2021 Municipal Election

I will be seeking re-election as a Councillor at Large for the City of St. John’s.

It’s been a pleasure to serve my community these past four years and I am excited to announce that I will again be offering to serve as a Councillor at Large for the City of St. John’s.

I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished as a Council over the last four years. Despite Snowmageddon 2020, COVID-19, and an uncertain provincial economy, we have moved the needle in making the city a more inclusive and dynamic place to be. I believe that my energy, values, and experience will allow me to make a valuable contribution in facing the challenges the next four years will bring.

I remain grateful for all the support I received in 2017. I’ve worked hard to earn your trust. In all my work, I aim to make decisions in a thoughtful, transparent and collaborative manner that balances diverse visions for the future of our great city. I hope I can count on your support so that I can continue to be a strong voice for our communities.

About Maggie Burton:

I believe in a St. John’s where residents feel connected to each other and to the place they call home regardless of age, ability, income, race, or gender. We face a lot of challenges as a city: a sprawling car-centric urban fabric, a harsh climate, an aging population, an uncertain provincial economy. Now more than ever, municipal politics has both immediate and long-term impacts on the day-to-day lives of Canadians as we grapple with the effects, both present and future, of the climate, economic, and social crises of our times. I believe that we can work together to improve the place we call home to build a healthy, sustainable, and just city that works for the residents of St. John’s. Currently, my portfolios are Planning and Development, Heritage, Youth, Audit, and Animal Care and Control. I serve as a City representative on the St. John’s Urban Indigenous Coalition. I am an ex-officio board member for the Northeast Avalon Atlantic Coastal Action Program and a board member for The Children’s Centre. I co-chair the St. John’s Food Policy Council.
